The world’s first hydrogen blending combustion demonstration project of gas turbine is invested by the supplier!

Recently, China’s first hydrogen doped gas turbine combustion demonstration project jointly built by Beijing Heavy Gas Turbine Technology Research Institute of state power investment group and siemens energy was officially put into operation, and the feasibility of the overall scheme was verified. The project is located in Jingmen high tech Zone, Hubei Province. It is also the first demonstration project of combined cycle and cogeneration for hydrogen combustion in natural gas commercial units in the world. The transformed units have the compatibility of pure natural gas and natural gas hydrogen mixing operation modes.

The national power investment Jingmen high tech Zone natural gas combined cooling, heating and power supply project operates two 56mw siemens energy sgt-800 gas turbines to supply cooling and heating while supplying power to the park. Siemens energy assisted the hydrogen burning transformation of the burner of one sgt-800 gas turbine, which is planned to be divided into two phases: phase I: 15% hydrogen blending combustion at the end of December 2021; Phase II will carry out 30% hydrogen blending combustion at the end of 2022. At that time, the unit will have the flexibility of free switching under the condition of 0% – 30% hydrogen blending operation. It is estimated that after the transformation, only one sgt-800 gas turbine in Jingmen can reduce 18000 tons of carbon dioxide emission every year when 30% hydrogen is mixed.

As the world’s leading energy technology company, siemens energy has announced that 14 models of gas turbines will achieve the goal of 100% hydrogen combustion in the future. By mixing hydrogen into the fuel mix, siemens energy gas turbine not only meets the market and environmental needs, but also helps customers gradually and flexibly realize the decarbonization of operation. Hydrogen burning gas turbine can meet the rapidly growing power demand in the short term and can be used as a backup power supply to supplement the intermittent power generation of renewable energy in the medium term.
