Now, while industrial robots are gradually opening up more application scenarios in the field of intelligent manufacturing, another “picture” of subversive manufacturing is beginning – robot production robots. It is reported that a fully automated production line of “robot production robot” has now “run” in the Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park in Beijiao, Shunde. It is worth mentioning that this is the first “robot production robot” production line in Guangdong, and also the first fully automated production line in China to produce heavy-duty robots. Compared with traditional manpower, the single shift capacity of this automated production line has increased by 50%, and the man-hour efficiency has also increased by more than 30%. When robots can “copy” themselves, they also make people daydream about the “future factory”.

With the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, the robot industry may bring a new growth point for the economic development of Shunde.

In the Midekuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park, located in Beijiao Town, Shunde District, Foshan City, a “subversive manufacturing” automatic production line – the first “robot production robot” production line in Guangdong and the first fully automated production line for producing heavy-duty robots in China officially “unveiled”. According to Chen Feng, Director of Operations and Human Resources of Kuka China, the production line was finally officially launched in January this year after construction and commissioning. It is worth mentioning that the whole line of “robot production robot” is independently developed and manufactured by Kuka, and its production process and technology are at the world-class level.

Walking into the park, the reporter saw that the “robot production robot” production line, with a total length of 35 meters, adopted 12 Kuka robots, 6 AGV cars produced by Kuka, and 5 seventh axis tracks of Kuka. “The production line mainly produces robots ranging from 10 kg to 100 kg,” said Chen Feng. At the scene, the orange Kuka robot is trying to “work”, assembling the gray half-finished six-axis robot, twisting a screw for the robot chassis, which is very intelligent, accurate and efficient. “When the robot ‘Big Orange’ takes the screw, it will carry out automatic detection. If it is qualified, it will be installed on the ‘Little Grey’.”

Automation and intelligence are the most obvious characteristics of this production line. It is reported that this automatic production line has achieved the goal of “unmanned” from the first process of robot assembly to the final production of a finished product. “This production line can be said to be non-human, efficient, and can work 24 hours.” Chen Feng said that according to the data measured in the park at present, compared with traditional manpower, the single shift capacity of this automated production line has increased by 50%, and the man-hour efficiency has also increased by more than 30%.

“Even after we get off work, the robot production will not stop, but will continue to work and assemble.” Chen Feng said that the production line invested about 20 million yuan, hoping to build a replicable, first-class automatic robot production line in the future, enabling the manufacturing industry.

As one of the “four families” of robots in the world, Kuka Group is one of the world’s leading industrial robot manufacturers, focusing on providing advanced automation solutions for industrial production processes.

In January 2017, Midea Group completed the merger and acquisition of Kuka Group and began to expand the business of robotics and automation. After a year, the cooperation between Midea Group and Kuka Group “landed”.

According to the previous report, Midea Group and Kuka Group set up a joint venture to build a new Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park, aiming to jointly expand the vast Chinese robot market and accelerate the development of Foshan industrial robots and intelligent manufacturing strategic industries. It is reported that the total land area of the Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park project is about 433 mu. The first phase of the project was started in March 2018 and put into use in 2019. This year, this project will be “expanded” smoothly, and the second phase of the project is expected to be put into use this year. The reporter learned that according to the plan, the park covers intelligent manufacturing, intelligent logistics and other business sectors, and will gradually build four functional areas in the future, including robot manufacturing center, application integration center, intelligent logistics center and training center, to create a first-class robot industry cluster in China.

At present, the industrial robot industry has ushered in a new “explosion point”. With the vigorous development of new energy vehicles, consumer electronics, biomedicine and other industries, the industrial robot has ushered in a new peak of market application. According to Chen Feng, from January of this year, the company’s order volume increased more than last year, and the product delivery capacity achieved a faster growth than last year.

“I hope that the first quarter of this year will reach a level of more than 30% higher than that of last year.” Chen Feng also revealed that from the perspective of the application industry of the product, the business of Kuka robot in the new energy vehicle, lithium battery industry and other industries is growing rapidly.

Focus on the robot industry or become the next “explosion point” of economic growth

In Beijiao Town, Shunde District, where the Midekuka project is located, the robot industry has been vigorously deployed in recent years. Now, a number of well-known robot enterprises, such as China Design, Aston, China Dali Deutschland, and Pioneer, have settled in Beijiao. The project is accelerating its construction, and the scale of the “100 billion industry” is emerging.

One data shows the strong strength of the current Beijiao robot industry: at present, for every 20 industrial robots in the country, one is produced in Beijiao, Shunde. At the same time, the industrial robot industry in Beijiao has accelerated its cluster and become the “elite force” with the fastest cluster development in Shunde and even Foshan. This year, Foshan City and Shunde District will focus on the development of the robot industry, which is a new opportunity for Beijiao and also another “breakthrough” for urban economic development in the future.

It is reported that from this year on, Foshan will take industrial robots, new energy storage and medical health as the short-term goals of the development of large clusters, and strive to cultivate them into an industrial cluster of 100 billion yuan by 2025.

At the economic work meeting of Foshan Municipal Party Committee held earlier, Zheng Ke, vice chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and secretary of the Foshan Municipal Party Committee, said that in order to develop the robot industry, Foshan should benchmark Shanghai. “In 2022, the output of industrial robots in Shanghai will be about 75000, accounting for 1/5 of the whole country, and that of industrial robots in Foshan will be about 35000, accounting for 7.5% of the whole country. Learning from Shanghai by benchmarking, we should highlight the leading effect of ‘leading enterprises’, expand the application scenarios in depth, and promote the Beijiao Robot Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park to enter the first echelon in the country.” Zheng Ke put forward new expectations for Beijiao at the meeting.

In addition, there is a policy “Dongfeng” to promote the large-scale development of Beijiao robot industry. Before the Spring Festival, Foshan issued the “Support Measures for Promoting the Development of Robot Industry in Foshan Beijiao Robot Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park”. The policy benefits include the Foshan Beijiao Robot Valley Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park and its linkage development zone. Within this scope, there are specific incentives and compensation measures for the settlement of relevant enterprise projects, talent introduction, innovation research and development, growth and listing, etc., with a single award of up to 200 million yuan.

Against these background, Tang Leijing, member of the Standing Committee of Shunde District Committee and secretary of the Party Committee of Beijiao Town, said at the beginning of this year that Beijiao will focus on two aspects of industrial economic work this year, including “seize the opportunity and focus on increasing the development of the robot industry”.
