Renesas electronics works with AVL to create functional safety support for customers and promote the development of ISO 26262 standard vehicle ECU

AVL provides comprehensive support to help Renesas customers develop complex and professional functional safety systems

On February 17, 2022, Beijing, China – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solution supplier, and AVL, an excellent enterprise committed to system development, simulation and testing in the automotive field, announced today that they will jointly provide support to customers and help develop electronic control units (ECUs) that meet ISO 26262 International Automotive functional safety standards. Based on this cooperation, AVL will provide comprehensive support for Renesas automotive customers to develop higher performance functional safety systems.
Efficient development of advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) / automatic driving (AD) system meeting functional safety standards has become a challenge. To this end, Renesas launched on-board r-car system on chip (SOC), rh850 microcontroller (MCU), power management IC (PMIC) and software solutions for ASIL B to ASIL d safety levels of ISO 26262. However, in order to meet the functional safety requirements, the whole ECU system including semiconductor devices must comply with relevant standards. Therefore, even if products such as r-car and rh850 that meet the functional safety requirements are used, the development of ECU that meets the ISO 26262 standard still requires in-depth system level expertise. AVL’s hardware and software support the development of ECU in accordance with ISO 26262 standard, and is well-known in the industry. Through this cooperation, Renesas customers can not only make full use of Renesas’s cutting-edge security solutions, but also benefit from AVL’s functional security expert support and shorten the development cycle of ECU conforming to ISO 26262 standard.
“We are very happy to bring AVL’s advanced technology and rich experience in the field of automotive safety to Renesas customers. Through this cooperation, our customers all over the world will be able to quickly develop ECU conforming to ISO 26262 standard with the help of Renesas’s high reliability products,” said Naoki Yoshida, vice president of Renesas electronic automotive digital product marketing division
Dirk Geyer, director of AVL functional security and network security, said: “with the popularity of ADAS / AD, the number of ECUs that need to support functional security will increase significantly. AVL can provide hardware and software support for various levels of security, including advanced support such as customized fmeda and specific product failure rate analysis. We look forward to providing comprehensive global support to Renesas customers.”
